Brad's Blog - 10/08/13
Can he take you there? The eternal question of the quarterback. Does your team have the guy running the offense that can get you to a Super Bowl? Tom Brady's been there five times. He's won three. Can Andy Dalton get the Bengals there? There are 11 more regular season games to find out if he can get them to the playoffs for the third straight year. But the Bengals haven't won a playoff game in more than two decades. Brady is an 8-time Pro Bowler, 3-time AFC Offensive Player of the Year, and 23 times AFC Offensive Player of the Week. Is Andy Dalton ever going to be that guy? I think the sample size is big enough to answer emphatically, no. But, it's the same answer for nearly every quarterback in the NFL. Dalton beat Brady Sunday. He's completed 3 more passes than Brady this year. He's thrown for four more yards. He's thrown two less TD passes. He's thrown 2 more interceptions. He's won one less game. There are 11 more to go. The Bengals defense won it for them Sunday. It will win it for them on a few more Sundays to come. Marvin Lewis says what he loves about Dalton is that he forgets the bad plays quickly and moves on. AJ Green this week says you have to stand behind your quarterback and believe in him. It's important to be positive. Andy Dalton does not appear to be climbing the ladder to become one of the elite quarterbacks in the game. Right now, he's average-- 16th out of 32 teams in passing yards for a team that was said to be set up for a 2013 offensive explosion. His team is 3-2. His team is tied for the division lead. His team has beaten three teams with Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks. Can Andy Dalton be the next one? Can he get you there this year? My definitive answer is: I don't know.
