Ask The Expert: How do "Little Hats" help remind moms about health care?
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Several area hospitals, including St. Elizabeth in Edgewood, are part of a national program that is using hundreds of hats to share a very important message to new moms.
The hats and a special care package are part of a national program called “Little Hats, Big Hearts.”
Each new mom is provided a special hat and care package as part of National Care For Your Heart Month, which is February.
The program is not about just taking care of a new baby, although that's very important, it's about taking care of mom and her heart, as well. Inside the package, there is special information, some booties for moms and of course the handmade little hats.
“It’s so important for them to take care of their hearts while they are taking care of their newborn,” said Jenni Grammer of the American Heart Association.
“We as moms... we forget, we are the caretakers of our family, and we tend to not take care of ourselves,” said Denise Walsburger, the Assistant Nurse Manager of St. Elizabeth Healthcare.
The best way to be a great mom for your baby is to make sure you are healthy as well as your baby.
