Airport Noise

Updated: Wednesday, October 9 2013, 08:35 PM EDT
The near-constant sound of loud airplanes puts older people at greater risk for heart problems, according to a Harvard study.

Researchers looked at data from 6 million elderly people with cardiovascular disease.

They found people living in neighborhoods near airports were admitted to the hospital for heart issues at a rate three and a half percent higher than other zip codes.

Noise has been shown to cause stress reactions and increase blood pressure which are risk factors for heart disease.
