Health Alert: Back to school fighting obestiy

Updated: Wednesday, December 17 2014, 04:08 PM EST
CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- It will soon be back to school time and that means it will also be a good time to get kids to sign up for activities to help fight childhood obesity.

It appears people have a bit of work to do when it comes to fighting obesity.  A recent ranking showed that Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana were all in the top 20 for obesity rankings.  Kentucky in the report was in the top five.

Experts said people can greatly reduce the odds by getting kids into regular activities.  And this time of year a lot of students sign up for Irish dancing.  The McGing Irish dancers from Blue Ash have been to Local 12 before and can be a recommended activity because it's a high impact and high calorie burning activity.  That means a person can burn up to 400 calories an hour.

If a person doesn't up their eating that could lead to losing up to a pound a week!  Instructors said people can start at any age and kids and adults can participate.
