Health Alert: Diabetes Food

CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- Might want to stock up on some yogurt the next time you go grocery shopping.

A new report shows it appears to have yet another hidden health benefit.  We've known for awhile that yogurt has all kinds of health benefits, usually GI benefits.  But this new report found it could do something else.  We stopped out at Obscura to tell you more about this research.

It is summarize by experts at the University of California Wellness at Berkeley.  This report looked at those who ate yogurt and compared it to those who did not.  They found those who had about 20 ounces of yogurt  per week were 28 percent less likely to develop diabetes over 11 years of follow-up.  This compared to those who did not eat yogurt. 

This was found to be true even when they adjusted for other risk factors such as age, family history and weight.  Researchers say they are not sure just how or why this is true but it could be that the vitamin D in any dairy, milk, cheese or yogurt  can help.  But it does appear to have one more body benefit or reason to add it to your diet, especially if diabetes runs in your family.
