Health Alert: Diet help with menopause

Updated: Thursday, April 10 2014, 08:54 PM EDT
CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- The latest heart healthy diet might help women naturally fight off a common problem during menopause.

We've known for awhile that the Mediterranean diet is heart healthy but this new report found it may do a lot more, especially for women.  We are in Norwood Thursday to tell you more about this research.
This diet is high in olive oil, whole grains, seafood, and more plant foods.  In this study they found women who ate this way experienced far fewer hot flashes, 20 percent fewer than those who did not eat this way.  Researchers say we don't know why, it may be that the fiber helps balance the hormones, especially estrogen, in the body .

Either way, if you can eat this way it's a healthy option.  So if all of us could eat  this way it would be a healthy eating plan with more plants and less of the high fat foods such as meats and cheeses.
