Health Alert: Exercise and Heart Disease

Updated: Thursday, December 26 2013, 05:21 PM EST
CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- A new report says going to the gym could be a powerful prescription for your heart.

This report actually found that exercise may rival medications for preventing heart disease.  Researchers at Harvard looked at more than 305 files for the effect of exercise to compare it to medication.

They looked at both those with heart disease and diabetes and found physical activity is so significant that for many it may be as effective as taking medication.

Now if you are on medicine, they don't suggest you go off them.  But they do suggest you actually start a program and talk with your health care provider.  You may be able to taper down as exercise goes up. Health Alert: Exercise and Heart Disease
