Health Alert: Fighting the Flu

Updated: Monday, January 13 2014, 10:47 PM EST

CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- So you might have figured out we are in cold and flu season.

Most areas are reporting wide-spread activity and there is something you can do help boost immunity that your mom and grandmother likely told you about it.  We stopped at Sophia's downtown to tell you more.

A report from Tufts University found there are several nutrients the body needs to fight off cold and flu viruses and chicken soup contains those nutrients.  They include vitamin, a, c, e, zinc and selenium.

Those nutrients are in the carrots, the broth, the chicken in chicken soup.  No surprise that mom was right and just a bowl or two this time of year might be a good boost for your own immunity.
