Health Alert: Little drop in weight helps

CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- Research has already shown that for every one pound you lose you take four pounds of pressure off your knees.

But this study found you also may help your heart by dropping just a few pounds with that.  This is published in the Journal of the American Heart Association.  We stopped out at Mercy Health's Cincinnati Sports Medicine.  Researchers looked at those who dropped just an average of 10 percent of weight.  That's often just ten to 15 pounds.

This study had an average loss per person of about 17 pounds and that was enough to drop blood pressure and blood sugar levels.  More importantly it took a lot of pressure off the heart, blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

We often get discouraged thinking about how much we have to lose, but a little bit makes a big difference.  So as soon as you can get out, get moving!  And any drop will help.
