Health Alert: National Heart Health Month

Updated: Tuesday, February 4 2014, 12:06 AM EST
MONTGOMERY, Ohio (Liz Bonis) -- This report found there are actually five steps to lowering your risk for heart disease.

Since February is National Heart Health Month, you may want to do these five things if you want to bring down risk factors for cardiovascular disease.  We stopped out at the Ohio Heart and Vascular Center, part of the Christ Hospital in Montgomery.

We are here to tell you more about a program on resistant hypertension.  If you want to lower your risk you have to get moving.  Those who get more activity lower their risk.

Those who eat a plant based diet also lower the risk.  They found it helps to manage stress with something such as yoga.  Moderate drinking may also help with a glass of wine shown to lower bad cholesterol and help bring up the good.

Finally, you need to quit smoking.  All of these easy to say and hard to do but small steps do really add up to big changes. Health Alert: National Heart Health Month
