Health Alert: Premature Births Grade "C" Nationwide

Updated: Friday, November 1 2013, 10:19 PM EDT
CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- The March of Dimes has just released a new report card on premature births in the United States.

Overall numbers are down slightly but the national grade is still a c.  Medical reporter, Liz Bonis, shares more about the organization's goals in Fridays Health Alert.

The March of Dimes released this information overnight on premature birth weight; it basically talks about the rate of premature births in our state and across the country.

If you are not familiar with the mission of the March of Dimes, they are a wonderful resource for you, especially if you are having a baby.  If you are even thinking of planning a pregnancy it's suggested you do what's called the 13 months pregnancy, start planning now.  They can give you great information, and help you reduce the odds that something might go wrong in that delivery or birth.

In Ohio they've just recently initiated a March of Dimes Prematurity Research Center and they've committed to supporting ten million dollars to seven centers in Ohio to look into the causes of prematurity and how to prevent that.
