Improved Face Filler Available in the Tri-State

Updated: Wednesday, December 11 2013, 04:06 PM EST
NORWOOD, Ohio (Liz Bonis) -- A new product to give you the look of a facelift without surgery  is now available in the Tri-State. Medical reporter Liz Bonis talks with one of the first patients to try it out.

Just a few days ago, Vicki Ferraro says she wasn't happy with the look on her face, "I wanted more of a lift." She got that lift, she says and came back for follow up photos that show improvement thanks to Juvederm Voluma, "I love it, I like pulling my hair back, looking at my cheek bones, I love it."

Juvederm Voluma is made of a substance called a hyaluronic acid, a category of facial fillers known as HAs for short. According to Dr. Jon Mendelsohn, "hyaluronic acids are naturally occuring products found in life, they are part of our bones, part of our skin, these are malleable, soft products we can sculpt like clay."

Now this substance, used to enhance your youthfulness, has been around for awhile, but this is sort of a new and improved version  so we wanted to be able to compare it to the last and let you know what's different about this latest version. "This is a game changer in terms of what's coming."  Dr. Mendelsohn is  a facial plastic surgeon who is one of the first to use this so-called game changer.

He says it's different because as you can see as he injects Arlene Shuller, it goes right into the cheekbone area, not below it as with most facial fillers. "It's a deeper injection, so where we are placing the product, rather than into the soft tissue it's right above the layer of the bone called the periosteum, so we are placing it deep to add back some structure to the face."

Juvederm Voluma also last longer than other fillers, up to two years. Arlene showed improvement in about 15 minutes. She was pretty happy with the results, "it's fantastic, it's like the quickest lift ever."

If you are not as pleased, a follow-up injection can also reverse the results. This filler cost about 15-hundred dollars for both sides of your face. It's not covered by medical insurance plans.
