Medical Edge: Free head and neck screenings July 15

Updated: Friday, October 24 2014, 04:33 PM EDT
CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- People can head downtown next week for free head, neck and throat screenings at the Boone County Public Library.

Marie Lapage had her tongue rebuilt from tissue in her shoulder. It was removed due to tongue cancer.

"They took tissue from my shoulder and part of my shoulder blade and then a flap," Marie said.

While she continued speech therapy she helped kids such as Piper find the books they loved.  Someday she hopes to be able to read to them again.  Marie allowed Local 12 News in on her surgery to stress to others the importance of early detection of this cancer.

Her team at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center has been holding free screenings for the past several weeks.  People can still register for the free screenings.  Call 513-475-8400.
