Chemicals linked to cancer found in fast food packaging
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - People don't expect to get a healthy meal when they grab fast food, but it turns out even the wrapper may be harmful to a person's health.
Scientists said they found flourinated chemicals in one-third of nearly 400 packages that were analyzed. The chemicals were used because they repel grease, but the substances have also been linked to kidney and testicular cancer, as well as decreased fertility and thyroid problems.
The chemicals can leach into the food.
The study was published in the Journal Environmental Science and Technology Letters.
