"Pamper for a Purpose" benefits Cancer Family Care

"Pamper for a Purpose" benefits Cancer Family Care (WKRC)

OAKLEY, Ohio (WKRC) - You're invited to make a hair appointment to benefit a great cause.

There are dozens of women who are asking you to “Pamper for a Purpose.”

It isn't every day that you have a good excuse to get a little pampering, but that’s exactly what this program is all about at the Zephyr Salon in Oakley, you also can help someone else in a very big way.

“I actually found a lump that was not on my mammogram,” said Jacqui Roell, a survivor.

That someone might be a loved one such as Jacqui Roell.

The team gave her a scalp massage as the chemo for breast cancer treatment took her hair, but not her spirit.

“Even though it was devastating, I still kept getting this message that it is going to be a blessing,” said Jacqui.

Part of that blessing, she says, came from what Pamper for a Purpose benefits: Cancer Family Care.

They help women with everything from free hair care and wigs to cancer counseling.

“It's that side of the disease that the medical profession ALS leave to us,” said Jill Settlemyre of Cancer Family Care.

Pamper for a Purpose is supported by a grant from Walgreens to Cancer Family Care.

When you make an appointment at Zephyr in Oakley on August 18-20th, the fee for your service is donated to Cancer Family Care.

They offer cuts, keratins, extensions and more so that moms such as Jacqui can get the cancer counseling and pampering they need.

Jacqui had her daughter see a counselor too.

She's 13 and she was having a hard time with me losing my hair, she didn't want to look at me because it was so hard,” said Jacqui.

Cancer Family Care offers all its services free of charge.

“Every little bit helps,” said Jacqui.

Events like this are the reason Jacqui says she does feel blessed in this journey with cancer.

“It really has been, I'm not the same person I was a year ago… going through all of this I think I am more at peace than I think I have ever been,” said Jacqui.

The event is next weekend, when you call and make an appointment, all you need to do is mention Cancer Family Care and let ‘em know that you want to support that cause.
