Waitress gets generous tip, then bigger surprise
HONOLULU (KHON / CNN Newsource / WKRC) - A waitress in Honolulu was at a loss for words when a couple she was waiting on not only left her a significant tip, but also paid off her student loan debt.
Cayla Chandara works double duty as a waitress at Cheesecake Factory and Noi Thai Cuisine.
She was waiting on a couple on vacation from Australia and talked with them quite a bit.
"They asked me where I was from, and I told them I moved here for school but I was kind of in a little bit of debt and I couldn't go back to school, because I couldn't afford it and the cost of living here," Cayla said.
The man and woman paid their $200 bill and left Cayla a $400 tip.
She sent a thank you note to hotel where the couple was staying along with flowers.
The next day, the couple came back to the restaurant and offered to pay off Cayla's student loan debt of more than $10,000.
The couple asked to remain anonymous, but told Cayla to be her best possible self.
"I want to make them proud. I will take this opportunity with an open heart and be a better person that I can be every day," Cayla said.
