Nursing homes use virtual care to decrease repeated hospital visits

Elder receives virtual care in nursing home from a doctor that's hundreds of miles away

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Some nursing homes have started to use technology to decrease repeated hospital visits.

Dr. David Chess visits patients from hundreds of miles away with Telemedicine and walks nurses through exams. He believes "getting the doctor to the bedside when a patient was ill would make an enormous difference in people's lives."

Nurse Denise Brown says that the more an elder visits a hospital, the chances for relapse increase. Telemedicine is "better quality of care to keep everybody here."

Telemedicine is meant to keep elders where they're most comfortable, while still ensuring they receive the care they need.
