7am stumper 2-11-14
This Friday is Valentine's Day. For some, it's the perfect day to pop the question. The U.S. Census has compiled statistics on marriages in the United States. Today's stumper is based on figures from 2011.
How many marriages took place in the U.S. in 2011?
1. 2.1 million
2. 4.2 million
3. 6.3 million
The answer is: 2.1 million
According to the website for the U.S. Census there were 2.1 million marriages in the United States in 2011. If you don't think that sounds like a lot, it's nearly 5,800 a day. It's probably no surprise that Nevada ranked as the state with the highest rate of marriage in the country. The census cites figures that show the rate in Nevada was 36.9 per 1,000 people. Hawaii ranked second, at just less than half the rate of Nevada, with a marriage rate of 17.6 marriages per 1,000 people.
