ON THIS DAY in history:

1907- The first taxicab debuts in New York City.

1913- Harry Brearley invents stainless steel.

1918- Opha Mae Johnson becomes the first woman to enlist in the United States Marine Corps.

1942- Walt Disney's fifth animated feature, "Bambi", premiers.  The full-length animated film was released during World War II and originally lost money.  However, it was re-released to theaters in 1947, 1957, 1966, 1975, 1982, and 1988.  Today, "Bambi" is seen as a classic.  Click HERE for a slideshow of your favorite "Bambi" moments.

1991- Super Nintendo Entertainment System is released in the U.S.
