1907- The first taxicab debuts in New York City.
1913- Harry Brearley invents stainless steel.
1918- Opha Mae Johnson becomes the first woman to enlist in the United States Marine Corps.
1942- Walt Disney's fifth animated feature, "Bambi", premiers. The full-length animated film was released during World War II and originally lost money.
