NY School omits religious references in Silent Night

Officials at Ralph J. Osgood Intermediate School, located in New York City, removed several religious references, including "holy infant" and "Christ the savior," from the popular Christmas carol, 'Silent Night',  before a concert featuring fifth-graders last week.

Watch the video player to see and hear the performance by the choir. Then head to our Facebook page and tell us what you though of the changes.

Here are the lyrics to the Christmas carol as it is written, not as it was performed in the video above:

Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Savior is born
Christ, the Savior is born

Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
