1914- Japan declared war on Germany in WWI

1919- Gasoline Alley cartoon strip premiered in the Chicago Tribune.

1990- Saddam Hussein appeared on Iraqi state television with western "guests" that were actually hostages.  This was in an effort to try and prevent the Gulf War.
