1960- France explodes its first atomic bomb.

1967- The Beatles' "Penny Lane" is released in the US.

1988- Michael Jackson buys a ranch in Santa Ynez, Cali. and called it "Neverland."

1992- Vince Neil announces he is leaving Motley Crue.

2000- Charles M. Schulz's last original Sunday "Peanuts" comic strip appear in newspapers.  Schulz passed away the day before.
