On This Day in history:

1872- The Metropolitan Museum of Art opened in New York City.

1952- "The African Queen" opened at the Capitol Theater in New York City.

1962- John Glenn makes space history when he orbits the world three times in 4 hours and 55 minutes.  Is is the first American to orbit the earth.

1964- The Beach Boys record, "Don' Worry Baby."

1974- Cher files for separation from husband Sunny Bono.

1997- Ben and Jerry's introduce their ice cream, "Phish Food."  It is chocolate with caramel and marshmallow swirls and an inch-long chocolate fudge fish.
