1906- Ohio passes a law that prohibits hazing by fraternities after two fatalities.

1963- Alcatraz Island, the federal penitentiary in San Francisco Bay, CA, closes.

1970- "ABC" by the Jackson Five is released.

1982- The movie, "Annie" premiers.

1989- Madonna's album, "Like a Prayer," is released.

1994- Steven Spielberg wins his first Oscars.  They were for best picture and best director for "Schindler's List."

2001- Nintendo releases Game Boy Advance.
