1918- For the first time in the US, Daylight Savings Time goes into effect.

1932- The Ford Motor Co. debuts its V-8 engine.

1940- La Guardia airport in New York opens to the public.

1943- "Oklahoma!" by Rodgers and Hammerstein debuts on Broadway.  The original title was "Away We Go".

1943- Christopher Walken is born.

1945- "The Glass Menagerie" by Tennessee Williams opens on Broadway.

2004- Google Inc. announces that it will introduce a free email service called Gmail.
