On This Day in history:

1855- Isaac Singer patented the sewing machine motor.

1919- The Cincinnati Reds win the World Series!  The win is bitter sweet though, it is later revealed 8 Red Sox threw the game and it becomes known as the "Black Sox Scandal."

1946- The first electric blanket goes on sale in Petersburg, VA.

1980- John Lennon releases the record, "Starting Over."

1985- Yoko Ono dedicates a garden memorial to John Lennon in New York City's Central Park called, "Strawberry Fields."

1986- "Phantom of the Opera" the musical opens in London.
