1628- The Puritans settle Salem.  The town will later become part of Massachusetts Bay Colony.

1869- First westbound train arrives in San Francisco.

1901- U.S. President William McKinley was shot and mortally wounded.  He died eight days later.

1905- Atlanta Life Insurance Company established.

1959- The first Barbie Doll was sold by Mattel Toy Corporation.

1963- Major league baseball's 100,000th game!

1997- The funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, takes place at Westminster Abbey.  It was watched by over one billion people worldwide.


1967: Macy Gray, American singer/songwriter and guitarist
