Police: White Brooklyn Couple Brutally Attacked in 'Racial Attack'

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Derek Drake) -- A couple is recovering after being brutally attacked by a group of black teens, which police are calling a racially motivated attack.

The couple, Ronald, 30, and Alanna Russo, 30, were driving when a group of black teens were crossing the road without the right of way. The couple had the green light, and Ronald honked at the teens to get out of the way.

That's when all hell broke loose.

According to court papers, the group surrounded the white couple's car and began kicking and hitting the vehicle. Ronald exited the vehicle to look at the damage they were doing when he was attacked.

Police say Ronald was dragged to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked in the head and body. Investigators say he suffered a broken septum, fractured nose, blood clot and a number of cuts and bruises. Police say his iPhone was stolen during the attack as well.

Whilst the attack was going on, witnesses and the victims said the teens were shouting things like, "Get those Crackers," and, "white motherf*****," to name a few.

Police say the attackers ranged in age from 12- to 18-years-old.

One of the 12-year-old suspects was a 12-year-old girl who pulled Alanna from the car by her hair while she was calling 911. Witness say the girl threw Alanna on the ground and repeatedly slammed the 30-year-old woman's head into the concrete. Onlookers in the marauding group were heard shouting "Get that white whore!"

Prosecutors say Alanna suffered a black eye, bleeding and difficulty breathing, but refused medical attention.

Police say the teens scattered after attacking the couple, but two teens were arrested nearby in a Lowe's parking lot.

One of the teens arrested, Kashawn Kirton, 18, told the New York Daily News that he is being wrongly accused because he was inside the Lowe's store at the time of the beating, but was wearing similar clothing to one of the suspects.

Kirton said he would never be a part of this kind of attack noting he has Caucasian cousins. "I have relatives who are white. Cousins and stuff," said Kirton who is a Freshman at St. Francis College. "My school is mainly white. More than half my friends are white. I wouldn't use words like that."

Kirton is charged with gang assault, harassment and menacing charges all as hate crimes. He has no prior arrests and was released on $50,000 bond.

The other teen arrested was Daehrell Finch, 17. He is charged with gang assault, assault, menacing and harassment but does not face hate-crime charges. According to court documents, Finch has prior arrests for assault, theft of services and trespass. He remains at Rikers Island, New York City's main jail complex.

Police say they are still looking for 6 more suspects.
