Surveillance footage shows disturbing scene after man is shot
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WKRC) -- A man was gunned down in cold blood, and new surveillance video obtained by Local 12 sister station, WMMT-TV Newschannel 3, shows an even more disturbing reality in the aftermath.
The video is from 2012, at the Quick Stop on the corner of Portage St. and East Stockbridge Ave. in Kalamazoo.
It's the day 24-year-old Jheryl Wright was shot and killed right inside the shop's doorway. But for nearly five minutes after he was shot, as the footage shows, no one tries to help him.
Jheryl's mother, Jackel Wright, says she wants to know who the people are who stepped over her son after he was shot, look them in the face, and ask them "a few questions."
"When they told me people were still coming in that gas station, stepping over my child in the doorway, I couldn't believe it; I couldn't believe it," she said. "I just can't believe people in this world would do something like that. I can't. I hope God have mercy on your soul because you was wrong, sitting there and not helping my son, like he was just a doormat; walking over him, laying there dead [sic]."
Wright's mother says she has only been told about the video, as she says she cannot bring herself to watch it.
