Abused Puppy Held as Evidence Finally Goes Up for Adoption

Updated: Sunday, December 8 2013, 08:10 AM EST
SHARONVILLE, Ohio (Deb Dixon) -- It's expected to be a very good first Christmas for a puppy that didn't have such a good life to begin with.

"Trooper" is evidence in an animal abuse case.

At two months old he was rescued outside the police station on the West Side after his owner threw him to the ground.  That got Troopers former owner, Miles Howard, charged with animal cruelty back in August.

Even though it's a misdemeanor it's still winding its way through the court system.  At one point Howard pleaded guilty by reason of insanity.

So Trooper's been held as evidence all this time; until now.
Even though the case comes up again next year, parties agreed to free Trooper from his lockup at the SPCA.

A judge's order allows Trooper to be adopted.  At fifty pounds he's very much a puppy. Full of energy and very sociable even though he's grown up at the SPCA,

Trooper goes up for adoption Saturday at noon at the Sharonville SPCA Cincinnati location.  A lot of families want him, his new family will be picked by lottery.

The SPCA thinks there will be high interest in Trooper and he will likely have a home for the holidays.
