Donation for Serenity Garden Under Construction for Veterans

Updated: Friday, December 6 2013, 10:37 AM EST
CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- It's Veterans Day and in honor of the holiday,  the Cincinnati V.A. Hospital is receiving a donation today that will go towards a project to improve life for service members.

The Serenity Garden is under construction right now in Corryville. Soon it'll be a small park. How fitting that on this Veterans Day, this goodwill project geared towards looking out for the well being of our service men and women, gets a boost towards getting completed.

Monday morning, a check will be presented to the V.A. from the Cincinnati Horticultural Society. The group held a fundraiser after it learned of the Serenity Garden project in a story we first told you about on Local 12 News back in May,  on Memorial Day to be specific.

This donation is going to go a long way. This project, once completed, is going to be a big deal for local vets,  particularly those who have been injured while serving.

Tracy Butts, of the Office of Veterans Affairs, says "Once we saw it everyone of us knew right away this is what it was going to be. This was going to be what we were going to put into place. We're looking so forward to the day when we actually see Veterans on that area enjoying that environment, park-like setting."

Aside from the new facility having assisted living  and hospice care, it'll also feature a state of the art swimming pool.

The project is set to be finished sometime next summer.
