Updated: Friday, November 22 2013, 07:02 AM EST
UNDATED (WKRC) -- Americans are remembering a sad day in history. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated 50 years ago on November 22, 1963.

Kennedy was president for barely more than one thousand days.As he rode through Dallas in an open car, he was shot and killed.

One of the doctors who was working when JFK was rushed into the emergency room remembers that tragic day. Dr. Robert Schorlerner says "I don't make a big deal about it, it's not an accomplishment. delivering quadruplets was an accomplishment. It was just something to be there. So I never thought of it as anything but I was a witness to significant event in history."

President Kennedy's death was also the first time that America shared a national tragedy in real time, through the medium of television.
