Former volunteer youth coach pleads guilty to a sex crime

Updated: Thursday, December 5 2013, 11:15 PM EST
KENTON COUNTY, Ky. (WKRC) -- A former volunteer coach with the Holy Cross boys youth football program agrees to a plea deal in a sex crime.

Thomas Hansman pleaded guilty to one count of using electronic devices to procure a minor to commit a sexual offense. Investigators discovered more than two thousand messages between Hansman and a 16-year-old girl on her Facebook account. Many of them expressed his desire for a sexual relationship with her.  Investigators say he did have sexual contact with her on two occasions.

As part of Thursday's deal, prosecutors dropped his other charge of 1st degree sexual assault. Hansman faces up to five years in prison and will have to register as a sex offender after his release. A formal sentencing is scheduled for January 24th.
