Mason Home Lottery

Updated: Friday, December 6 2013, 07:19 AM EST
MASON, Ohio (Brad Underwood) -- It's not a common scenario, entering a lottery just to be able to buy a home.

But in Mason, the Alverta Development is so popular the demand is nearly double the number of homes that will be built.

The Manor House is packed.  Shoulder to shoulder hundreds of potential home buyers gets a firsthand look at what the new Alverta Development could look like.

The fact you have a lottery system for this for a band new neighborhood it shows a lot of people want to live here, I think it's great.

Before the sale opens up next month, a lottery system will most likely be created for potential buyers.  The plan calls for 125 single family homes to be built, but Thursday night, more than 300 potential buyers showed up.

I'm feeling fortunate; Ive entered it, so I hope it's in my favor.

Right now it's a pile of dirt located at Mason Montgomery Road and Western Row Road.  Greg Williams of M/I Homes says this project has been in the works for more than two years with specific target audiences in mind.

Maybe they're retired, thinking about retiring, kids are gone, they want to downsize their house.

The other group targeted families with children.

Williams says he's held lotteries in the past and believes he has the right approach this time.

I don't think it's fair to ask a buyer to spend a night in the cold, on the ground waiting, I don't think that's fair to our buyers.

So instead, names will be drawn from a hat.
Pricing for some of the homes are as low as 300,000 dollars with sizes ranging from 2,200 to 3,800 square feet.

The invitation only lottery will be held on December 7th.  To qualify, you must be pre-approved, pay a deposit, and have a lot choice picked out.
