More Violence Near UC

Updated: Sunday, November 17 2013, 09:29 PM EST
CINCINNATI (Brad Underwood) -- You can't help but notice the increase in police presence near UC's main campus.

In recent months there have been two robberies at the Clifton International Market and one shooting on Warner Street.  The police response, beef up patrols.

Friday, police say Quinton Scott, robbed the market and hit the clerk over the head with a glass bottle.  As of Friday night, Scott and two other suspects remain on the loose.
The police patrols in the off-campus areas have gone to 7-days a week from the previous four.  And, Cincinnati police have done more to make sure their presence is seen.

The recent increase in violence doesn't seem to be limiting the number of students out at bars and restaurants.  Junior UC student Curtis Robertson says he thinks student security is just fine.
"Security around here seems pretty tight and well controlled.  I got a text message that everything was going on and where everyone is headed. I feel safe around here," said Robertson.
But Virginia Jones says she doesn't think it's making a difference.
"For some reason it seems the robbers are getting even more bolder, even though they stepped the security up, it's still going on," said Jones.
Despite the recent up tick in crime, UC President Santa Ono has said that crime has actually decresed this year by 35 percent.
