Officer hit by Vehicle Trying to Stop Theft Suspects

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC)  -- A theft from Northgate Mall quickly escalated after a police officer was ran over by the suspected thieves.

Colerain Police were looking into some reported thefts that were occurring at the Northgate Mall Saturday.  An officer noticed the 3 people suspected of shoplifting and tried to stop them.

That is when they got into a Jeep Grand Cherokee and tried to get away. The police officer tried to stop them but was hit by the feeling vehicle.

Police chased the jeep out of the mall and onto the Ronald Regan Expressway where speeds reached above 90 miles per hour.

Other police agencies got involved as the case went from the Ronald Regan Expressway onto northbound Interstate 75.

Police setup at least 3 stop stick in efforts to try and stop the fleeing suspects.

At one point the driver appeared to steer the car at and an officer who was setting up stop sticks on the road. That officer was not hit or injured.


The chase came to an end after the front left tire came off of the Jeep, followed by the front left rim.

Police quickly surrounded the car.

The door on the passenger side was locked and police broke out the window to get the passengers out of the vehicle.

The two women were taken into custody with no issues while the man was sprayed with mace before he was arrested.
