OSU Students Hold Unofficial Mirror Lake Jump

Updated: Wednesday, November 27 2013, 09:01 AM EST
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKRC) -- There may have been snow falling and freezing temperatures, but that didn't not stop Ohio State students from jumping into a campus lake as part of a years-old tradition ahead of the football game against Michigan.

This year, the university announced new safety restrictions, including wristbands and fencing for Tuesday's jump. In protest, on Monday night, thousands of students stormed the fence to hold their own jump in Mirror Lake. They organized it on social media.

The snow and required wristbands did little to stop the nearly 12,000 students who jumped Monday. During Tuesday's official jump, only about 700 students participated.
