Protestors of Controversial 'Game' Gather at Univ. of Texas

Updated: Thursday, November 21 2013, 01:25 PM EST
AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) -- Despite a controversial illegal immigrant event being cancelled University of Texas students showed up in droves Wednesday to protest the idea.

The students came together not only to protest the game the Young Conservatives of Texas had planned, they're also calling on Congress to stop blocking immigration reform that would allow the current 11 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S. to eventually gain citizenship.

Activist and actress America Ferrara -- the co-chair of the I'm Ready for Immigration Reform campaign -- was at the protest and says what's happening on the UT campus is a shame.

"For however many kids wanted to participate in that atrocious game, we have many more kids who are here in support of a real dialogue and real change," Ferrara said.

The democrat-led U.S. Senate passed a bill back in June but House Republicans say it has little chance of making it in their chamber.

President Obama has said he will accept a "peace meal deal" to get immigration reform passed.
