Restaurant Owner Fails to Show Up for Arson Sentencing

Updated: Wednesday, December 4 2013, 10:15 AM EST
CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- A man fails to show up in court to learn his punishment for setting fire to his own restaurant. A judge has now ordered deputies to arrest Aiman Arabeiat.

That judge was scheduled to sentence Arabeiat Tuesday morning for intentionally setting off the 2011 explosion that destroyed his family's restaurant, the Jerusalem Caf. Arabeiat pleaded guilty to aggravated arson in October. The business in Clifton Heights was undergoing renovations at the time.

Arabeiat was burned in the blast and prosecutors say his son helped get rid of the clothes he was wearing. His son pleaded guilty to obstructing official business and a judge ordered him to pay a fine and court costs.

A new restaurant called Cilantro opened in its place.
