Sinkhole Swallows Florida Man's Backyard

Updated: Thursday, November 14 2013, 09:25 AM EST
DUNEDIN, Fla. (WKRC) -- Neighbors in Dunedin, Florida have been evacuated due to a possible sinkhole that opened behind a backyard Thursday morning.

The hole appears to be about 12-feet wide in the town near Clearwater. Homes on both sides of the sinkhole have been evacuated as a precaution. A boat and part of a patio have already fallen into the hole. There are also reports a neighboring pool appears to be cracking.

The homeowner tells local reporters, he heard a noise that sounded like a sledgehammer pounding on the wall shortly before the hole formed. He says he's been concerned about a sinkhole and that a sinkhole prevention company has been pouring grout into the home's foundation over the past two days.Sinkhole Swallows Florida Man's Backyard
