Thousands Get Meals at the Fall Feast

Updated: Friday, November 29 2013, 09:47 PM EST
CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- Thousands of hot meals are served today at the Duke Energy Center downtown, in one of the nation's largest Thanksgiving celebrations.

A few thousand people attend the Fall Feast. Volunteers are serving up to 3,500 free meals at the event. Another 2,500 are made to hand out at other locations.

The event features a coat giveaway, a kids' play zone, live music and more. Hundreds of individuals contribute to make this celebration what it is today.

There is no shortage of volunteers this year. Many of them get just as much pleasure serving the meals, as the people eating them. Nearly nine hundred people volunteered at last year's event. They served 1,200 pounds of turkey, 13,000 pounds of green beans, 80 gallons of gravy and 800 pies.

Meals are served until two p.m. Thursday afternoon. Since the event started in 2005, more than 23,000 total meals have been served.
