Ubahn Music Festival Rocks Transit Center

Updated: Monday, November 18 2013, 06:55 AM EST
CINCINNATI (Angenette Levy) -- The first-ever Ubahn Music Festival kicked off Friday night at a little-used transit center near the Banks.

Ubahn is German for underground transit center. The two-day concert showcases hip hop and electronic dance music. 25 artists are scheduled to perform.

"I Just love DJ'ing to be honest. It's probably one of the funnest things," said 15-year-old Mason Crowe who goes by the name DJ Vizion.

The music festival was the brain child of the AGAR Agency, concert promoter Self Diploma and the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce. Organizers felt the Riverfront Transit Center- which is rarely used - was a good setting for the event.

"I think it fits so perfectly with the culture of the event. I mean the warehouse feel, the acoustics, everything about this underground center fits with the culture of electronic dance music and hip hop," said Jessalyn Reid, a marketing manager for the Chamber of Commerce.

Friday night the transit center started to fill up with people. Most were between the ages of 18 and 30 while others were a little older.

D.J. Vizion, who's from Florence, hopes to one day make a career out of making music.

"People come to listen just for you. It's kind of nerve wracking and like it builds up and I just love the thrill," Crowe said.

Ubahn continues Saturday night from 7 p.m. until 2 a.m. The transit center can be difficult to find. It's at 220 Central Ave. between West Pete Rose Way and Third St. near Paul Brown Stadium.
