Young Suspect Faces Additional Charges in Murder of Reynoldsburg Teen

Updated: Tuesday, December 3 2013, 11:12 AM EST
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/Ken Hines) -- A teenager accused of murdering an 18-year-old Reynoldsburg student now faces charges of rape and kidnapping in connection with the young woman's death.

Blacklick resident Adrian McGee, 17, is accused of stabbing Danielle Michaels and leaving her to die in a wooded area behind Reynoldsburg High School's Summit campus on November 18.

McGee -- who was charged with murder shortly after the discovery of Michaels's body -- now faces counts of rape, kidnapping, and tampering with evidence, according to Licking County Prosecutor Ken Oswalt.

The suspect's father claimed Michaels's death occurred accidentally when she was struck by a 13 inch knife that was thrown at a tree by his son, who had smoked marijuana with the victim at Pine Quarry Park prior to her death.

The knife -- which the suspect allegedly purchased when he was 16 -- was found by police inside the McGee family's Blacklick home.

Michaels's body was discovered by a passerby three days after she was reported missing to Reynoldsburg police by family members. Detectives believe she was killed on Saturday evening.

McGee is scheduled to be arraigned on the new charges on Monday afternoon at the Licking County Courthouse. He is scheduled to attend a probable cause hearing on December 13, during which a judge is expected to decide if the teen can be tried as an adult.
