Fire fighter convention focuses on texting while driving

Updated: Monday, July 14 2014, 08:04 AM EDT
CINCINNATI (Adam Clements) -- You may notice a lot more fire fighters roaming around downtown this week, about 2,500 of them.

They're all here for one of the biggest fire fighter conventions in the country.

This isn't your run of the mill convention with power point seminars and team building workshops.

This is an opportunity for thousands of fire fighters and first responders to come together and take a hands-on approach to fixing problems pertaining to public safety.

This is the 52nd bi-annual International Association of Fire Fighters Convention and what better place to host it than Cincinnati, the first city to install a fully paid and professional fire department.

The theme this year is standing strong, something that won't be hard for these men and women. It's what they do every single day.

It's the focus of the new public safety initiative that's set to be unveiled that's drawing attention. The new campaign is called justify it and it centers around the dangers of texting and driving.

Not a problem you'd typically associate with fire fighters and first responders, but when careless distracted driving leads to a crash they're the people rushing to the rescue.
