SIDS cause may vary with baby's age

Updated: Tuesday, July 15 2014, 12:40 AM EDT
UNDATED (WKRC) -- The causes of sudden infant death syndrome vary with the baby's age.

That's the conclusion of a study published in the Monday issue of the journal Pediatrics.

Most of the babies, under four months of age who died while sleeping, were bed- sharing with an adult.

Older infants were likelier to be found alone in their beds, but on their stomachs, with blankets and pillows around them.

Those are the two most common factors linked with SIDS. This study is the first to show how risk factors change with age.
