Bengals face Buccaneers to kick off 50th season
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The Cincinnati Bengals hit the field at Paul Brown Stadium Friday night for their first preseason game.
And this one is historic as it marks the beginning of the franchise's 50th season.
The Bengals have installed big "50" signs around town over the last couple of weeks commemorating the season.
During the offseason, they've added plays and said goodbye to veterans.
Now, it's time to show the fans what they've got.
The orange and black play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
For the veterans, preseason is a time to get the players on the field, shake out the cobwebs, and stay healthy.
It's something altogether different for the rookies.
This game is their chance to show the fans if they can live up to the hype.
One of the most controversial picks in this year's draft, running back Joe Mixon, said he's ready.
"I got a great team around me," Mixon said. "We've got great teammates, great coaches, and we are all together as one. We are not individuals. I feel like that's what a lot of people have got to learn about this offense. We're all playing as one, our team coaching as one. Our coaches put us in great positions to do whatever we can to showcase our abilities and we just trying to play for our teammates and nothing else."
That's what's happening on the field. Off the field, the Bengals are adding some new food options for fans, including a spicy Bavarian burger and triple B hot dog topped with baked beans, bacon crumbles, and barbecue chips.
They've also opened a new store near section 102.
You can watch the game on Local 12, starting at 7:30 p.m. Pre-game coverage starts at 7 p.m. with the Bengals Highlight Show.
Tickets for Friday's game are still available.
