CINCINNATI (Cincinnati Business Courier) - A group of Cincinnati culinary luminaries and businesspeople, including one of the founders of MadTree Brewing, the chef of Maribelles Eat + Drink and the former operations vice president of Panera Bread, are opening a craft distillery with an attached restaurant east of Cincinnati.

Karrikin Spirits Co. is opening in Fairfax this fall. It will have 1,000-gallon pot and column stills and a 30-barrel brewing system for distilling as well as an event space, full-service bar, quick-service bar and a restaurant with a wood-fired grill.

Karrikins are compounds found in the smoke of a forest fire that cause dormant seeds to sprout. The founders chose that name to encapsulate the new growth and innovation they want to bring to the craft beverage industry.
