Dealer sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison for Anderson Twp. overdose death

Omar Israel-Griffin sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison for selling drugs that led to overdose death in Anderson Township (MGN)

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A man who dealt a deadly mix of heroin and fentanyl to a man, who died, was sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison. Omar Israel-Griffin, 27, pleaded guilty to a federal charge of distribution of a controlled substance on Wednesday.

Police investigated after a man was found dead of an overdose in his Anderson Township home on November 19, 2015.

The investigation led police to Israel-Griffin, also known as Deuce. They say he sold the drugs to the man who died.

Israel-Griffin pleaded guilty in April, then tried to withdraw the plea. Judge Michael Barrett denied his request.

Israel-Griffin will also spend eight years on parole once he's served his sentence.

“Dealers must recognize that they perpetuate tragedy when they distribute narcotics like fentanyl and heroin,” U.S. Attorney Benjamin Glassman said in a news release. “They are playing a direct role in the deaths of others.”
