Man arrested after firing gun near school in Fayetteville
FAYETTEVILLE, Ohio (WKRC) - Brown County Sheriff's Office said one man was arrested after gunshots were reported on Russell Street in Fayetteville Wednesday.
The incident happened shortly before noon. Due to its proximity to the reported shots fired, Fayetteville-Perry Middle/High School was on lockdown briefly.
The Brown County Sheriff's Office located 38-year-old Kenneth Rummel Jr. behind a home on Russell Street. A handgun and spent shell casings were recovered in that area as well.
Rummel was taken into custody. His pending charges include aggravated burglary, theft of a firearm and discharge of a firearm at a school safety zone.
Also around noon, the Brown County Sheriff's Office said a student at the middle school sent a text message that said there was a shooter in the high school and he was hiding, but school officials confirmed to deputies that was inaccurate and the scene was cleared.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
