FC Cincinnati looking for record-breaking crowd at home opener
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - It's going to be a great day for soccer.
Professional soccer is back in the Queen City Saturday night, and the players are just as excited as the fans.
FC Cincinnati gets to break in the new pitch for their home opener as they take on St. Louis FC. The team is looking for a big win, and they hope to do just that in front of a record-setting crowd. The current record for a home opener stands at 20,231. That was set by Sacramento Republic FC.
At the inaugural home opener in 2016, FCC drew a crowd of 14,658, despite bad weather.
So far, FC Cincinnati is 1-2-0 on the road. Now, they are gearing up for three games at home over the span of eight days. These will all be teams in the Eastern division.
Fans will see some new faces on the team this year, but we caught up with a familiar face. Midfielder Corben Bone was voted team MVP in 2016 by his teammates. He returns for his second year with FCC and can't wait to step foot on this field Saturday night in front of all the fans.
"They're tremendous, and I've never seen anything like it, he said. "Their support and their consistent just coming to the games and coming to events and all that kind of stuff it remains--you know it's great for us as the players to go out on the field and to have them and to know you're going to have them at your home field to come out and show support for you and give the other team a little bit of trouble--that kind of stuff. It's a great feeling and we're really grateful for it."
The game kicks off at 7 p.m. If you can't make it to the game, you can also catch it live on Star 64.
